Bentley's story

Bentley was a completely healthy Rottweiler living with five humans and a team of huskies on the outskirts of Augusta GA.  On 21 November 2016, Bentley escaped from his back yard in hot pursuit of his best friend Bandit.  Bentley was struck by a car just outside of his neighborhood.  He was rushed to Saint Francis in Augusta where he received emergency care and his initial X-rays.  It wasn't good news.  In fact, it was really bad news.  However it wasn't the worst news, and that's where Bentley's story begins.

Bentley's back legs were completely destroyed.  He had eight breaks in his left leg and three breaks in his right leg.  He was immediately transferred to Augusta Animal Emergency where he would undergo a nine hour surgery the following day.  The surgery was successful or at least we are hopeful that it was.  We're about to find out.

However, the real story in what comes next. How does a 100 lb dog recover from such trauma. From what we've been told, not too many dogs his size experience injuries like this and live. We tried to research it, but we couldn't find anything showing us how to care for a dog in this situation. The Dr. has given us some tips and we have a place to start. Our hope is that we can document this process and if successful, share it with others who find themselves in similar circumstances. We also want to share this with those of you who committed your thoughts, prayers, and hard earned dollars to give this dog a fighting chance. You have no idea how much it means to us.

Please stay with us!  If nothing else, we are all about to learn something.
